2017/18 NHS Pay Award – What now?

The NHS Pay Review Bode (PRB) has recommended a 1% consolidated pay increase for all NHS Staff on Agenda for Change contracts. The Government has accepted the recommendation and pay for NHS staff will be increased from 1st April 2017.

In response to this, UNISON is now consulting with branches to determine how members would wish we respond. The branch will be discussing our response at the Branch Committee on 12th April, but we are keen to hear from you, the members before then.

UNISON nationally have come up with 2 options on how we resource and focus the response to the 1% pay award. The first option is “Earnings Max”, which will see the union pursuing a national campaign that would seek to re-profile Band 1 jobs into Band 2 (in other words, scraping the lowest band), and regional campaigns focussing on issues such as: living wage claims; local recruitment and retention premiums; improved shift patterns etc.

The second option is to focus resources to a national ballot to challenge the 2017/18 pay award.

We now need to hear from our members with their preferred Options. The window is quite tight as we meet in just over 7 days time to form a branch response. So please contact us via email at [email protected]

Please provide your name, workplace and your preferred option from those listed below :-

OPTION A – Earnings maximisation.

OPTION B – National Ballot to challenge the 2017/18 pay award.

Responses will be collated at 4pm on Tuesday 11th April 2017, and presented to Branch Committee the following morning. An update will be posted on the branch website www.unisonpennine.org.uk once we have agreed a branch response.
