Holocaust Memorial Day - Whitefield Commemoration

On Sunday 28th January at 5pm Holocaust Memorial Day commemorations will take place in Whitefield, a suburb of North Manchester. Close to the Whitefield Metrolink station, events will take place at the Millennium Flagpole Garden, on the corner of Church Lane and Bury New Road, over the road from Morrisons supermarket. This is the first official HMD event to take place in Whitefield, and it is hoped to make this an annual event, with the participation of the wider community in forthcoming years.

The theme of this year's commemorations is the Power of Words, and in keeping with this there will be communal recitals of selected poems and prose, together with a moment of silent reflection, and a candle lighting ceremony.

Holocaust Memorial Day is a time for everyone to remember the millions of people murdered in the Holocaust, under Nazi Persecution and in the subsequent genocides in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia, and Darfur. On Holocaust Memorial Day (HMD) we honour the survivors of these regimes and challenge ourselves to use the lessons of their experiences to inform our lives today.

Please make every effort to attend.

NB - This event takes place on the 28th January, rather than the 27th, for religious observance reasons. Many of the HMD events take place in the days leading upto and following the 27th.
