UNISON Celebrate 70 Years of our wonderful NHS

UNISON Pennine Acute Health Branch wrapped up a week of celebrations this Thursday with a lunchtime birthday party at Fairfield General Hospital. In fine birthday tradition there were cakes, balloons and of course, presents! Lucky UNISON members won gifts such as Shopping Vouchers, a tablet computer, a meal and overnight stay at Village Hotel in Bury, and many, many more.

Joining the celebrations were Tony Lloyd, MP for Rochdale, and James Frith, MP for Bury North who had the honour of picking the lucky draw winners.

Jean O’Donnell, Branch Secretary said
“Today is not only a chance to celebrate our great health service, but an opportunity to cherish it. I’ve been a Nurse in the NHS for 40 years. In that time my children have been born, and now my mother is being cared for, by the NHS. Unless we look after our health service and fight to preserve it, then I fear that my grandchildren will not benefit from it being there for them like it has been for us.”

Karen Morley Williams, UNISON Lead for the Fairfield General Site in Bury added "We wanted to say a big thank you to all of our members who've played their part in making the NHS the national asset that it is today. With assistance from local businesses who kindly donated prizes, we have been able to make a lot of our members very happy this week"

Karen Morley-Williams (UNISON Pennine Fairfield Lead), Tony Lloyd (MP for Rochdale), Jayde Mungroo (Healthcare Assitant & UNISON member) & James Frith (MP for Bury North).
