UNISON £500 Cash Prize Draw

Each year International Nurses Day shines a spotlight on issues facing nurses both locally and nationally, as well as issues that are common with nurses across the globe. In 2020 that global commonality is well and truly in focus with Coronavirus affecting people the world over.

2020 has also been designated as “Year of the Nurse and the Midwife” by the World Health Organisation, with the topical theme of “Nursing the World to health”. Last Tuesday we saw International Day of the Midwife also marked, a day of global recognition and celebration of the invaluable work of midwives.

Likewise, on the 14th May we would have been marking OPD Day 2020 when the role of the Operating Department Practitioners comes into focus. This year is a significant one as it’s 75 years since the College of Operation Department Practitioners came into being.

Unison has always recognised the importance of supporting and learning from our colleagues working in health services from around the world. We also play a key role in supporting people who come to work in the NHS from overseas. This is another reason why we are proud to support this international event.

We also firmly believe in recognising the whole of the NHS team, which is why each November we celebrate our “One Team” week where the role of support staff such as porters, cleaners, clerical, and catering staff are focused upon as we thank the whole healthcare team. The events of the last couple of months have demonstrated all too well that our health and care services rely on a myriad of occupational groups, all with important roles to play.

UNISON Pennine Acute Health branch would have liked to have had a hands on role in celebrating both the midwife and nurse day events. However global events have put paid to those plans. We fully intend to make amends for this when it is safe to do so.

In the meantime we have decided to give a little cheer to our members with a £500 Cash Prize Draw. Entry is free to all branch members, no matter what you do or where you work, with one entry per member by email. Simply send your name, post code & contact number to [email protected] by Friday 29th of May 2020. We will pull names out of the hat with the lucky winner contacted by Friday 5th June 2020. This draw is only open to members of UNISON Pennine Acute Health branch. It’s just a small token of appreciation to members from all occupations. We think each and every one of you do a great job.
