Value Us, Pay Us.

We are proud to report that Paula Barker, former UNISON North West Regional Convenor, now MP for Liverpool Wavertree, has sponsored an Early Day Motion to Parliament calling for a funded meaningful pay rise for NHS staff in recognition of their tremendous efforts during the pandemic.

Early pay rise for NHS staff: EDM #742 reads

"That this House recognises the extraordinary commitment and sacrifice of NHS staff throughout the covid-19 outbreak; believes that the depth of public gratitude for this work must now be reflected in what the Government does next for NHS staff; notes that as it stands, NHS staff must wait until 2021 for their next pay rise despite having gone above and beyond during the covid-19 outbreak; recognises the importance of improving pay to tackle the vacancies that exist across all parts of the NHS workforce; and calls on the Government to show its support for the NHS by turning warm words and applause into a firm commitment to bring forward NHS pay talks and to fund an early and meaningful pay rise."

So, what can you do to get this up the Parliamentery agenda?

·       Send a letter or email to your local MP. Tell them what work you have been undertaking during the COVID-19 pandemic and ask them to sign Early Day Motion (EDM #742) and prove that their claps were not just cheap publicity stunts.

·       Encourage your work colleagues who are not already in a union to join UNISON today. The greater our density of membership, the more powerful we are.

·       Share your Covid Diary with UNISON. Tell us about your experiences through the pandemic. Let us help to get a strong message out that our NHS workers deserve proper recognition through their wage packets. Send to [email protected]

And don't forget. Take to social media and use the hashtag

                                      #ValueUsPayUs

UNISON is continuing its campaigning for staff that are working in the NHS but are employed by private contractors. We want full Agenda for Change (AfC) terms and conditions, which includes pay (and enhancements, occupational sick pay and annual leave for all those that work in the NHS) Some staff work side by side and do the same jobs but are paid less and have worse terms and conditions. We work as ONE team, we are ONE NHS and should be treated as ONE NHS.
